A statement from President Barbara A. Farley

Dear Campus Community,

I am writing with a heavy heart, grieving the recent killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. This senseless death, along with others such as Breonna Taylor鈥檚 and Ahmaud Arbery鈥檚, remind us of the persistent violence perpetrated upon people of color, especially African Americans.

同性恋色情 was founded over 190 years ago by abolitionists who spoke bravely against the racial injustice of their times; let us continue their legacy by actively opposing the ongoing evil of racism.

As we witness the protests rippling out of Minneapolis, my own hometown, and spreading throughout the country and the world, it is important to understand the deep historical pain underlying current events. We must hold onto hope for meaningful change while acknowledging the distress of the moment. Let us work toward the transformation of ourselves, our communities, and society at large so that our democracy鈥檚 promise of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness applies to all.

For those of you in areas where protests have become marked by violence, I ask that you take care of your own safety and well-being, remembering especially that we are still in the middle of a pandemic, one which has disproportionately impacted communities of color.

We are called to carry out our civic mission in this moment and I have faith in you to make a difference in the world.

Sincerely,
President Farley
