Mechanical engineering: A new degree
This allows students to immerse themselves in engineering from day one, focusing on real-world applications like robotics, CAD design and the engineering process. With specializations in environmental and biomedical engineering, students will prepared to tackle some of today鈥檚 most pressing global challenges.
The program emphasizes more than just technical expertise. By integrating interdisciplinary courses, students develop essential skills in communication, critical thinking and problem solving. These experiences prepare graduates to thrive as leaders and managers, with a clear pathway to licensure through the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Hands-on learning is at the heart of the new major. Students engage in internships, collaborate with faculty on research projects and use cutting-edge technology to design solutions. The newly renovated Crispin Hall made the addition of this major possible by providing state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced labs and collaborative spaces, positioning IC as a leader in STEM education.
The new engineering program builds on IC鈥檚 success with its 3:2 Pathways to Engineering option, which allows students to start their education at IC and complete their degree at a partner institution. The addition of the major ensures students now have the option to finish their engineering degree entirely at IC, meeting the growing demand from prospective students.
